BBQ sauce for meatballs
Originally from my dad's Aunt Louise. My grandpa would split hot dogs lengthwise and let them cook in the sauce until they curled up. My dad's interpretation involves meatballs.
1/2 c. finely chopped onion
1-2 tbs butter or olive oil for cooking
1/2 c. ketchup
1/2 c. water
1/4 c. vinegar
salt and pepper
1 tbs Worchesershire sauce
1 tbs paprika
1 tbs sugar
1 tbs dry mustard
pretty sure the chef adds in some liquid smoke too
1 lbs of meatballs or hot dogs
Cook the onions in butter until soft but not brown over medium heat.
Add in the rest of the ingredients and bring to a simmer.
Put in your protein of choice and let simmer, stirring occasionally until hot.
These are always better if you can cook them the night before, cool and store overnight and then reheat for the party.
