How to kick the can of beans
Everything from the recipe to the title of the post was taken from Budget Bytes.
Here's how to make cooked black beans from dried beans with nothing but beans and water (and a crockpot for cooking).
Pour out your dried beans (1 lbs) and pick them over. Take out any rocks, leaves or broken beans. Rinse well.
In a large crockpot add the beans and water, 6 c. of water for every pound of dried beans.
Cook on high for 4-6 hours.
Portion out beans into freezer bags, 2 c. of cooked beans equals about 1 can of beans. A recipe usually calls for a 14.5 oz can of beans and you always drain out the liquid. So just remember, using this method, you'll always have slightly more beans than the recipe calls for.

I'm so glad that I tried this. Although I will rarely use black beans in our household, I will use this method for cooking pinto beans, or kidney beans whenever I can. And lucky you will get whatever beans we can't eat.
