Dilly beans or pickles

From Serious Eats

I've made these with beans several times but I like them better made with cucumbers.  When your neighbors start giving you tomatoes and cucumbers, you need to use them up in creative ways.
We like these better now as green beans.  Going to add in some cayenne pepper so that we can get to my BIL's favorite store bought kind that we are kinda obsessed with.

In the bottom of a large mouth quart jar, add
2-3 cloves of crushed garlic
1 2/3 tsp dill seed (not dill weed)
as much hot pepper flakes as you want (sometimes the kids eat these so I keep it pretty tame, less than a tsp)
then pack in a pound of cucumbers, cut into whatever shape you like, or beans

Meanwhile-
Combine in a sauce pan and bring to a boil-
a little more than 3/4 cup water
and the same amount of white vinegar
1 1/3 tbs kosher salt

Pour the hot brine over the vegetables, cover, and store in the fridge.
Let sit "for at least a week?"  I usually don't wait this long, they just aren't at it's peak spiciness yet.
