Sweet and spicy tofu

 I can't find the account where I found this.  Sorry.


We are a big hungry family so we used 2 blocks of tofu.  

Press them between something heavy for 20-30 minutes (sheet pans weighed down with a heavy cookbook)


In a large bowl combine an amount of corn starch with salt and white pepper

Toss to coat

In a large frying pan add 2-3 tbs of oil and fry over medium high heat until golden and crispy, this took us about 10 minutes

Meanwhile make the sauce 

1/2 c soy sauce

1/3 c maple syrup

2 tbs pickled jalapeno juice

2 tbs white miso

grated garlic

grated ginger

2 tsp mushroom powder (dried porcini, smashed)

When the tofu is ready add in your sauce and simmer over medium to medium low heat until the sauce has thickened and all the tofu is covered

Serve topped with sesame seeds and chopped scallions
